Sarah Sutherland (1845-1919)
Sarah was one of seven singing sisters, who grew 42 foot of hair between them,
which was sensuously revealed during their act. The family went on to produce a
hair tonic, which was hugely successful and financially lucrative. The sisters
were rumoured to have squandered their fortune in scandalous ways.
Extract from Glory:
Well we sang real pretty, put a lark to shame,
then there was our crowning glory, sleek and
tumbling to our hems, we thought to grow it
seven feet long. Sure took some tending but
we was happy, sooner comb than wring a neck!
